Victoria BC, Canada. 01 Feb, 2010 --/ Strathcona Airport of Alberta Canada has installed the Avlite AV70 solar powered LED taxiway lighting system for permanent operations at the Rocky Mountain airport. Strathcona Airport is managed by Strathcona County, it is used for privately owned and commercial aircraft with the lands surrounding the property primarily used for agricultural purposes. The Avlite AV70 was a green choice for the airport, based on their environmental, energy and safety goals. The solar LED airfield lights from Avlite Systems will allow the taxiways to be clearly delineated during early morning operations before sunrise and during dusk or night fall for nighttime operations. An antiquated electrical system will no longer be needed along a key section of taxiway, providing a maintenance free, zero energy costs solution for private and commercial pilots. Strathcona Airport recently stated: “the lights are installed and operating beautifully”. Strathcona Airport operates a 4,560’ X 100’ long paved runway with 12 aircraft tie downs, a public terminal, air traffic control system, VFR day/night rotating beacon, radio controlled airport lighting, PAPIs, ODALS and GPS procedural approach.
In partnership with ARC Aviation Renewables Corp. and Crouse Hinds Airfield Lighting Products of Canada, Strathcona Airport looked for a solutions provider with a proven solution.
