For Immediate Release
Victoria BC, Canada. 06 December, 2010 --
Oyut airfield in Mongolia will install the Avlite Systems AV425-RF solar powered runway lighting system with the Solar Series LED APAPI provided by Aviation Renewables. The off grid solar airfield lighting system will provide VFR and IFR non-precision LED lighting intensities for daytime and nighttime Medevac operations in support of a nearby mining operation. The AV425-RF will provide runway edge, threshold, runway caution, simple approach and obstruction lighting with the AV70-RF providing taxiway lighting and the Apollo providing a rotating beacon for airport identification. With its patented AVMesh Network , the Avlite radio controlled airfield lighting will provide a redundant, self-actualizing command and control communication network with almost unlimited communication range. Complementing the Avlite solar powered airfield lighting system will be the Solar Series LED APAPI consisting of two Light House Assemblies, a p ower control unit, RF controller and frangible solar powered system. The LED APAPI will provide visual glide slope indication for pilots on approach consisting of SAAB-340 and F50 aircraft for day and nighttime operations.
Key factors in choosing the Avlite AV425-RF solar powered runway lighting system and the Solar Series LED APAPI were the significant up front and long term environmental, economic and maintenance savings. The key benefits to the airport include easy installation during the cold winter months, initial low cost of procurement compared to conventional hard wired electrical systems, zero energy costs over multiple years, low maintenance costs, ability to operate in temperatures reaching -40 Celsius, mobility of use for Medevac operations and the proven expertise in the design, training and installation of a renewable airfield lighting system from Aviation Renewables and Avlite Systems. Mongolia is a vast and diverse landscape with remote airfields located in distant corners of the nation. A completely autonomous, solar powered lighting system capable of on demand power and lighting will serve the needs of Mongolian air traffic well into the future.
