Victoria BC, Canada. 28 September, 2010 --/ Avlite Systems has been awarded a contract to deliver multiple radio controlled AV425
solar LED airfield lighting systems for portable operations supporting AFRICOM. The AV425 will provide pilots and ground crew the ability to illuminate remote runways for both visible and infrared LED lighting requirements that lack conventional infrastructure. Using a 2.4 GHz encrypted mesh network, the AV425 can be activated from the ground, air traffic control tower or cockpit of an aircraft via an encrypted VHF radio signal. With a custom built omni-directional polycarbonate lens designed to both FAA and ICAO photometric requirements, pilots can clearly identify the runway on approach, from directly above or when circling overhead in NVG compatible or visible mode. In addition, Avlite’s AV MESH Network allows all lights to communicate via a command and receive smart network providing fail-safe, self-healing and self-realizing wireless communications with almost unlimited range.
Working with Aviation Renewables, a consultant based organization specializing in renewable power and lighting solutions, the operator required a solution that provided exceptional lighting and control capabilities for pilots operating in variable environments.
The AV425 portable solar airfield lighting system was one of only two radio controlled solar LED runway lighting systems capable of meeting the photometric performance, operational, safety and cost objectives of each runway with the alternative system considered being the SNC EAGLE solar hybrid airfield lighting system. As providers of proven, tested and custom solutions for both defense and civilian operations, Avlite Systems and Aviation Renewables continue to support the industry’s most demanding aircraft and challenging operating environments.
