Victoria, BC Canada, ARC Aviation Renewables Corp, (ARC) held a two-day training seminar for airfield managers of the US Forces responsible for deploying, operating and controlling portable solar airfield lighting systems. With more than 50 airfield managers participating in the training, Aviation Renewables was able to focus on the key issues and challenges facing US Forces aviation leaders at contingency or forward operating bases throughout the world.
Technical training with hands on instruction focused on the industry’s most capable solar airfield lighting system in use today for US Forces contingency operations, the ARC solar airfield lighting system. The ARC solar powered portable airfield lighting systems are unique in their rapid deployment capability, military tested design, field-tested performance, triple redundant operating features, and visible/NVG compatible lighting intensities. This mobile solar airfield lighting system must withstand extreme and austere operating conditions such as continuous rotor wash, sand blasting and extreme hot and cold temperatures.![]()
When airfields are destroyed, inoperable or suffer from non-existent infrastructure, airfield managers are faced with an urgent set of challenges to facilitate fixed wing and rotary aircraft operations. Airfields of this nature can restrict aviators to daytime operations only, a limiting reality in time of need, humanitarian aid or conflict. Aviation Renewables focused on the modular design tactical capability of the airfield lighting system which allows rapid set up for non-precision IFR operations using solar power alone and if required over extended days of operation, round the clock non-precision IFR airfield lighting operations with high voltage power cables.
The two-day seminar familiarized the participants with the SNC solar airfield lighting systems, allowed all parties to listen to the challenges in the airfield today, provide feedback on solutions to meet those obstacles and educate the airfield management community on new technology developments available for use now and into the future. The participants benefited from hands on training of the AV450 solar powered, radio controlled runway edge and threshold lights, AV71 and AV72 taxiway edge and helipad lights, 2.4 GHz hand held encrypted controllers, portable power delivery systems and advanced airfield lighting control systems.
As a solution based consulting company with the ability to draw from leading manufacturers of defense proven airfield lighting products, Aviation Renewables provided training on its various technology solutions that were able to meet and exceed the current challenges of forward operating bases.
